It is estimated that over 70 million Americans are affected by different forms of allergies. Allergies are a chronic disease Allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to a substance. Some individuals also develop other chronic diseases such as asthma as a result of allergies that have not been properly diagnosed or treated. Detection of allergies is the first step in effectively treating them and ensuring that they do not impact your physical and mental health. At EG Healthcare, we offer comprehensive testing treatment for allergies as are often offered by allergy doctors in Staten Island. Our primary care providers are well versed on different allergy-based conditions and are dedicated to offering personalized treatment for each of our patients.
What are allergies?
An allergy is your body’s way of reacting to a substance, that, under normal conditions, would not cause any negative symptoms. The substance you develop an allergy to is called an allergen. Allergens can enter your body via ingestion, touch and inhalation. Allergies can degrade quality of life and impair both physical and mental health development. Common allergen sources are pollen, mold, dust mites, animals, foods, drugs, latex and stinging insects. At EG Healthcare we provide testing for environmental allergies.
How do I know whether I’m allergic to a particular substance?
Each allergen can cause a different allergic reaction. Classic symptoms are seasonal allergies, asthma, chronic sinus infection, chronic congestion, burning/itchy/watery eyes, headaches, chronic fatigue, difficulty breathing/shortness of breath, chronic nasal discharge and chronic use of over-the-counter medication.
Allergy testing and Immunotherapy treatment
At EG Healthcare, we offer allergy treatments and immunotherapy to both adults and children over the age of 5. EG Healthcare can help diagnose and treat a variety of allergies. Our allergy care providers take time in understanding your condition and concerns after having a detailed and personalized session. The medical care provider may require your medical history for an accurate diagnosis. Therefore, if you have them, it is ideal to bring in any previous test results, current medications and any other medical health related issues you have had in the past. Based on the session, we will conduct an allergy test to determine your specific symptoms and potential allergens that impact your health. Patients will be tested for specific mold and airborne allergens that exist in the Northeast Region, including those that may be found in your workplace or living environment. Using these results we will offer customized treatment, referred to as allergy immunotherapy, which helps desensitize the patient. Desensitization therapy is a process that can help patients gradually be exposed to allergens without having an allergic reaction such as sneezing, coughing, runny nose, itchy watery eyes, congestion, headache and nausea.
Some of the allergic treatments that we offer treatment for include:
- Hay fever
- Allergic conjunctivitis
- Seasonal allergies
- Hives
- Asthma
