Dana Materia is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She completed her Bachelors and Masters of Science in nursing from Wagner College. Since 2003, Dana has been treating patients in an in-office setting, beginning with Primary Care, and specializing in Endocrinology and the care of the Diabetic Patient for the past 11 years. She enjoys helping people manage their diabetes, as well as other various endocrine diseases. Dana focuses on patient education, and feels that it is a vital part of the health care process, as it provides patients with information about their health status and a plan toward a healthy outcome. Understanding the challenges for making lifestyle changes, she helps to find ways for her patients to make small yet impactful long-term changes, as well as developing an individualized plan of care to help achieve their goals. She remains abreast of the latest research and enjoys implementing new technologies that can change the patients daily management of their diabetes.
Dana’s previous experience includes long term care management, retail clinic health services management, care of the medical-surgical, cardiac, and oncology patient, as well as a clinical instructor for students in Medical-Surgical and Pediatrics. When she is not working she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children, baking, and being a leader and role model to her Girl Scouts Troop.
